Pledge Allegiance to Local Food!
|
Local Food is food produced within the "local foodshed' in the Central Ohio River Valley Watershed within 100 miles of Cincinnati.
Making a 10% shift in buying or producing local food does not mean all of your food has to be local. It just means shifting what you currently eat to include 10% more locally grown and/or produced food.
If 10% of the regional population takes the pledge it will result in over $49,000,000 infused into the local economy and 544 local jobs! Plus, it's better for the environment and a healthier option.
Click here to take the Pledge and learn more about it and Green Umbrella.

Shady Grove Farm
WHERE'S THE BEEF?
Pasture-raised LOCAL beef in popular retail cuts: summer squash, cherry & San Marzano tomatoes, cayenne, Anaheim & Poblano chiles, tomatillos, radishes (black Spanish, daikon, long scarlet & rose heart), basil, new-crop cilantro, rosemary, and greens - curly mustard, black mustard, and other leafy stuff. We may have more Goat Meat - e-mail Friday to check shadygrovefarm@wkybb.net
Nancy will continue at Market until mid-December, with Fall crops, pasture-raised beef and goat meat, and after Thanksgiving, Holiday greenery and decorations.
The headline picture and copy below come from Shady Grove Farm's Facebook page. It's a great place to get glimpse of life on the farm. "Lily's surprise twins, "Choc" (shown) and "Rock" made fine meat animals and have gone to processing. I had hoped one or the other might sell for breeding, but the market is down, (owing to grain prices being up). They were beautiful boys, and we miss seeing them around. Such is the stock business!"
Check out our farmers market manager, Tony, and the beautiful scenery at Shady Grove Farm while assisting Nancy with goat hoof trimming.
Nancy's blog provides you with insight into life on the farm, recipes, and much more!

Go Green!
Check Out Ann's Green Tip of the Week!
This week Ann will be bringing All-Purpose Cleaner, Disinfectant Spray Cleaner, Glass Cleaner, Sink and Tile Cleaner, Soft Scrub, Air Freshener, Hand Sanitizer, Linen Mist, Disinfectant Wipes (disposable & reusable), Soy Tarts, Tart Warmers, and Soy Candles (all scented with 100% pure essential oils). Organic dog treats will also be available.
GREEN TIP OF THE WEEK: Dishwasher Cleaner
Using half a lemon is a great natural way to clean your dishwasher. Cut the lemon in half and impale it onto one of the upright prongs inside your dishwasher. The acid in the lemon will act as a degreaser and you'll get a fresh lemon scent.

Moore's Farm
Dried Flowers
Since Jack Frost spread his icy blanket it's time to think about Roena's beautiful dried flowers. They make lovely lasting arrangements. Try mixing them with pumpkins and gourds for a festive autumn theme.

Thistlehair Farm
