Pledge Allegiance to Local Food!
Local Food Pledge
Local Food is food produced within the "local foodshed' in the Central Ohio River Valley Watershed within 100 miles of Cincinnati.
Making a 10% shift in buying or producing local food does not mean all of your food has to be local. It just means shifting what you currently eat to include 10% more locally grown and/or produced food.

If 10% of the regional population takes the pledge it will result in over $49,000,000 infused into the local economy and 544 local jobs!  Plus, it's better for the environment and a healthier option.

Click here to take the Pledge and learn more about it and Green Umbrella.

Fanciful Fall

Greensleeves Farm survived the wind, pretty much.  They have some repairs to do to the high tunnel, but they should be able to grow greens and cabbages even during the "dark side" of the year.

They return to the Bellevue Saturday market with more of this amazing Fresh Ginger, lettuce, kale, spinach, winter squash, garlic, and a few sweet potatoes.  The hens are really slowing down egg production; they hope that after they move them into the greenhouse this weekend, numbers will improve.

Remember, this Sunday you can celebrate the turning of the seasons with the Greensleeves Fall Harvest Potluck and Bonfire.  Come to the farm 5-9, enjoy fantastic food vegan, vegetarian, omnivore style, and BYOB.  They will have apples for bobbing, and pumpkins for tossing, and straw bales for seats around the bonfire and storytelling.  Email Gretchen at greensleevesfarm@gmail.com for directions--GPS will not easily get you to 10851 Pleasant Ridge Rd., Alexandria!

Sunset at Shady Grove Farm
Sunset at Shady Grove Farm - photo shared from Nancy's blog

Shady Grove Farm sends good wishes and prayers to all those affected by this week's devastating storm. They were fortunate to have no more than a few branches down, and still no hard freeze. But the cold nights have slowed things down. This Saturday, look for plenty of Fall greens (curly mustards, extra-curly, extra-spicy mizuna, black mustards, and the very first rapini), a few baby summer squash, lots of those tireless Anaheim & poblano chiles and tomatillos, and radishes - long scarlet, black Spanish and everyone's favorite, rose heart.

And of course, USDA-processed local beef and goat meat, 100% produced without antibiotics, steroids, hormones OR "pink slime." Five percent discount on beef purchase of $50 or more: Reply for cuts available and pricing.

Also pick up an order form for your holiday wreath, hand made of 100% natural, unsprayed, sustainably harvested REAL greenery: white pine, blue berry juniper, boxwood, magnolia, bllue spruce. Wreaths will be delivered at Market on Saturday, November 24.

To send inquiries about the beef or wreaths email:   shadygrovefarm@wkybb.net

Check out our farmers market manager, Tony, and the beautiful scenery at Shady Grove Farm while assisting Nancy with goat hoof trimming.

Nancy's blog provides you with insight into life on the farm, recipes, and much more!

The Farm at Holiday Harbor
Squash, Peppers, Beans, Eggplant, Tomatoes & Watermelon!
Eggplant
There's nothing like picking in the cold wind and rain caused by Hurrican Sandy!  They're looking forward to the warmer, sunnier days predicted for the weekend.  They still have lots of squash, peppers, beans, eggplant, tomatoes and watermelon!

Our Mother's Garden
Start your Christmas shopping early!

Winter/Holiday soaps will be available later in November!  Three Kings, Vanilla Hazelnut, Christmas Memories, Oak Leaves and Acorns and Berries and Twigs are just a few. Hope to see you at the Market!

Go Green!
Check Out Ann's Green Tip of the Week!
JoGreen Cleaners

This week Ann will have new gift baskets of all-natural soy tarts scented for the holidays, Holiday Wreath & Flowers, Buttery Pumpkin Spice, Gingerbread, Cinnamon and Spice, Eggnog, and Santa's Sugar Cookies.

Also available: All-Purpose cleaner, Disinfectant cleaner, Glass cleaner, Sink and Tile cleaner, Soft Scrub, Disinfectant wipes, Dishwashing disks, Soy candles and tarts, tart warmers, and Organic Dog treats.

GREEN TIP OF THE WEEK:  Reuse that pumpkin!
Think twice before throwing your jack-o-lantern in the garbage.  Your Halloween pumpkin will be a treat for wildlife.  Cut the pumpkin into chunks and place the pieces throughout your backyard .  The birds will love it!

In order to protect inventory, Ann will not be at the market during inclement weather.

Moore's Farm

Veggies, Greens, Potatoes and Dried & Fresh Flowers!

Pretty in Pink
Moore's Farm thanks everyone who has visited their tent and bought locally grown, fresh picked vegetables and cut flowers this season!  Their plans for next season are to continue raising plants, fresh vegetables, and cut flowers for your table.  For our last two weeks we will have:

Tomatoes (red and green), an abundance of fall/winter squash and pumpkins for pies, fresh green onions, large cabbage heads, kale, mustard, peppers (sweet and hot), china rose radishes and other mixed radishes, turnips (large and small) with tops for fresh greens, green beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and whatever other surprises they find.

Flower offerings the next two weeks will include dried arrangements, boxes of dried flowers for you to "pick your own", and colorful gourds.  From a fun experiment in growing florist mums in the greenhouse, we will cut all those that have bloomed for "last of the season fresh bouquets".  The florist mums are limited, so please come early if you need fresh flowers.

The mums in the banner photograph are beauties from Roena's greenhouse.
